Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Thank you for all the responces I had on this thread.

I made a trip down to Newbury and had a new diesel pump fitted about a month or two ago and so far no cutting out so hopefully problem cured.

In future I will be far more likely to travel to a bongo specialist than have any work done by a local ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Apologies for my being slow, I will of course just take it off the new pump temporarily.

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Thank you very much, ZEXEL No. 010206-1040 / BOSCH No. 9 442 610 511 it is. Sorry if this is a stupid question but these numbers don't bring anything useful up on google, where do I get one from?

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

I wasn't able to check the fuel tank because of the camper conversion. The vinyl flooring goes wall to wall with the cupboard units attached on top of the flooring. So assuming that the fault is not in the fuel tank I have bought a second hand fuel pump that was apparently running fine when it was ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Hi, oil is slightly under full. I guess it could of been grey smoke, I'm not sure how to measure the difference between grey and blue, I guess it's subjective.

The glow plug relay (orange light) clicks off after 15 seconds if engine not started, stays on when engine is cold and clicks off with ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

My big problem is I live in Northampton and the nearest proper Bongo garage is in Bath and I need the van for getting to work.

Oh yeh and by the way the white smoke on start up that I originally mentioned has pretty much gone away since I put the injector cleaner in.

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Hi, thanks for that suggestion, I didn't realize there was a panel that would let me look in the fuel tank, and it sounds like the technical level I can manage. I will try on Saturday in daylight. The van's got a full side conversion, hopefully this won't be a problem getting access.

I had an ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

One thing I forgot to mention before is that straight after the engine stalls when still stationary on the drive I can hear gurgling coming from the fuel tank, is this significant? When the engine stalls once I've been driving I can hear sloshing.

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

hi. Different symptoms I'm afraid, The problems always happen on short journeys not long and only when the engine is cold. I've checked the filler cap before for a vacuum and none. I think the full tank thing may have been my imagination as it was cutting out with a full tank earlier this week ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Well I put a bottle of Halfords most expensive engine/injector cleaner in the tank last week and this did seem to have an effect on reducing the white smoke/steam and possibly improved the running but no effect on the cutting out.

After using up the tank with the cleaner in I filled up at Morrisons ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

I had the seals changed in case it was pump related but I'm reluctant to have the pump it's self changed with out knowing for sure that that's the problem.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the glow plugs when i had them changed as it starts first time but i wanted to rule them out.

Is ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

I saw the temp gauge start to rise and pulled over before it reached max. The coolant was not rebled but the heater gets nice and hot quickly.

I think I tried switching the aircon on a while ago and I don't think it did make a difference, but then if the problem is fuel starvation of some kind, am ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

No ongoing coolant leaks but i lost four litres at the start of winter when a pipe froze and split. Once that was fixed coolant has remained steady but I just checked it and level in the tank seems to have dropped maybe a cm since i last checked a week ago.

On days when I don't have problems it ...

Re: Cutting Out & White Smoke

Hi, It starts first time no matter how cold it is so I assume there is power to the glow plugs.

I haven't had the coolant tested yet, is this something any garage can do quickly? The van's my daily drive so I have to take a day off work everyone time I want any work done at the moment.

Cutting Out & White Smoke

Hello

My 95 2.5l TD has been cutting out when cold now for a couple of months. It starts first time everytime but on cold morning it will often cut out when I slow down for the first corner or if I leave it idling for to long sometimes. By cut out I mean that when I take my foot off the acelerator ...
