Re: Oil Level above full
Thanks for the info! I will run it for a few 100 miles and check it again. If its still too high I will see if I can get hold of one of those pela pumps.

Oil Level above full
Hi, just had the Bongo serviced, got it home and added 750ml Slick 50 not thinking to check the oil dipstick level!
At cold its up to the kink (1/2 inch) above the full level.
Should I get it drained or will it be okay?
The engine is the 2.5TD 4WD (1996)

Thanks all! Thought I was maybe going mad!
Yay!!! It's now warning me my seatbelt is not on! Better take the bulb out!
Who needs seatbelts when you're driving a Bongo!

Bongo Dash Lights
I have recently had to change a few of my dash bulbs which have blown. One of my dash lights is full beam which is below the rev counter, but I am unable to find the low beam light. Does the dash actually have a light for low beam light?
Simple one I know, and the answer is probably no, but can't ...

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
200 miles seems a bit low? What engine do you have? Is it a standard bongo or camper conversion?

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Hi Mike, I did questions whether it could have been an air lock while they explained what they did to it, they couldn't say, but it sounded plausable to them.
Hi Kirsty, thanks for the info. I was only getting 300 to the tank (Ran out of fuel) while the engine was damaged! They did say however ...

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Got the Bongo sorted! ADS was very good and explained everything. Came to £1450 in total.
Thanks everyone for the information.
One final question, how many miles do you expect to get on a full tank of fuel on motorway runs?

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Thanks for all your feedback, interesting discussion! I will get an engine temperature gauge fitted for the future.
I think the situation got worse over time. I did notice that I was spending more on fuel and the power got gradually worse, and this is over the space of 6-7 months.

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Thanks for all the info. I will get a breakdown when I go back to the garage. The garage is ADS in Bristol and they seem to provide a good service.

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Thanks, they did mention replacing the thermostat.
I guess it is straight forward to fit a temperature gauge. I have seen the TM-2 Temperature Gauge/Alarm on www.coolantalarm.co.uk.
I will ask them about the two hoses, but if they are £25 in the bongo shop, I am sure they must have got that wrong ...

Re: 2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
Hi, thanks for your responses.
I took the van to a my local Bongo garage as I started noticing white smoke coming from the exhaust #-o
You guessed it, cracked cylinder head!
Before I get them to do it, I would like to find out if the quote they have given me is not too steep?
These figures are ...

2.5 TD 4WD first time overheating
I have had my Ford Freda for 2 years and never had a problem with overheating until yesterday (Sunday 24th May).
I was travelling from the coast yesterday afternoon about 4pm, on quite a hot day. Usually the temperature gauge sits at 11pm even when pushing up hills, but yesterday it shot up to ...

Bongo Fuel Gauge Erratic
Just before Christmas my fuel gauge on my bongo started reading false information. I have a Ford Freda 2.5 TD 4WD 1995.
I filled up the tank, and the gauge moved to 3/4 full. It then went down to half a tank after 50miles and stuck there for another 100 miles then shot down to below empty for ...
