Re: National Bongo Day 24/02/2013

Don't be disappointed at responses. Peeps usually only make positive replies not negative ones. We aim to try and attend a meet on this day as we are coming up to 8 years of membership but Clacton is a bit far for a day trip and I think I have given up cold weather camping what with age, muscles, jo...

Re: Cambelt change - is it just mileage or time?

Hi Guys!

Many thanks.

You confirmed what I thought. Looks like an expensive visit to the garage. Cambelt, tensioners, tyres - current ones have done 45,000 miles and a set of brake shoes.

Ah well! Its worth keeping things up to scratch because the bongo has given us years of trouble free adventure.

Cambelt change - is it just mileage or time?

Cambelt was changed in January 2006 on import to UK at 35,500 miles so done 45,000 miles. Mileage now is 80,000. Going on a trip to the mountains in Norway in July, about 3000 miles, which will be fairly hard going. Would it be wise to have it changed before we go? I would appreciate any advice.

Re: Fuel Consumption worrying me somewhat. roughly 20mpg

The 3 years i had my 2.5 diesel Bongo,I religiously brimmed it at every fill up and worked out the mileage . Running round town was about 23-25 mpg.........long motorway run at 60 mph was about 31-33 mpg. I now have a 2ltr petrol which I brim at every fillup and get 18mpg :( Brian Agree with Brian!...

Re: So, where are you off to this year?

Unfortunately no direct ferries these days. We've costed it very carefully  When you weigh in the cost of diesel and two overnights the most economical way is Harwich - Esbjerg then Hirtshalls - Larvik. Remembering to buy spirits in UK and wine and beer in Denmark, you won't get much change f...

Re: porta potty

Have a porta potty - never use it - too complicated and prone to let things stew. Use a big bucket 'Need a loo' with seat and lid and place it in the awning that goes over the tail gate. We also always carry an ex-army entrenching tool!

Re: So, where are you off to this year?

At the end of July we are going to Norway, again, to spend a week in Sandefjord and two weeks on the Northern part of the Hardangar Vida for some walking and nature. Wild camping is on the agenda as it is allowed.

Re: 100,000mile Service Costs

Are you having the cam belt and tensioners replaced? Mine were done at 37,500 miles and I was told to get them replaced at about 100,000. I think those on the forum that know will suggest you check your service records.

Re: 18.4 mpg - is this the worst ?

Thought I'd better join in. Best improvement suggested by Kirsty was to change gearbox oil and thoroughly clean the pan. There was a thread about everything one should do to improve economy - can't find the link but 3 points really are important Tyre pressures - I run on 40 front and 45 rear ( curre...
