1999 Bongo 2.5TD - Valve Stem Seals / Cylinder 3 Exhaust Outlet Oil Leak

Hi there,

Long time no-chat! Will try and keep this as succinct as I possibly can!

June 2023
Right after Bongo Bash I had a leak in my Thermostat To Passenger Side Heater Pipe which caused loss of coolant and an overheat. At the time, I pulled over immediately and switched off the engine. We ...

Re: Roof Motors Advice - Bongo 2.5TD 1999

Sorry mate I couldn't tell you for certain if they're the originals but considering its only been in this country three years and with 60k miles I assume they're all original parts, I can raise it in the morning and check for the numbers if you like, I'll post the results afterwards.

I ended ...

Re: Solar set-up Advice

The controllers/regulators won't allow the voltage across the batteries to exceed the maximum for charging, they simply reduce the amount of current they contribute to the overall charging so neither battery at any time will be overcharged.

How can the MPPT know how much current or voltage ...

Re: Solar set-up Advice

Yes you can wire direct to the LB, that's what the controller handles, it can also have other power sources charging the battery as well, in my case the EHU Charger and a Split Charge Relay all three sources are in parallel and which ever one has adequate power will provide the power.

I hope you ...

Solar set-up Advice

Hi,

Planning on using my Bongo prettymuch all summer this year and will be spending a bit of time off-grid so wanted to explore some solar options.

I have done some research online with different youtube videos and so far I understand that I’ll need a panel and a solar charge controller. Was ...

Re: Roof Rails for Bongo

Surely better with a tow-ball mounted rack and large box, or even a trailer. How are you going to access a roof box? Bongos fuel economy is bad enough already.

If you insist, then it's something bespoke or its back to the seventies and those style of bars that clamp to the vehicle gutters, but in ...

I see, what is the alternative for a roofbox on a Bongo?

Roof Rails for Bongo

Hi,

Does anyone have any advice on the below style roof rails for Bongo's?

Do they even exist or is it possible to get them custom made through any niche UK fabricators etc?

Re: Roof Motors Advice - Bongo 2.5TD 1999

Mines also a 2.5 diesel with AFT and last weekend was the first time since we tried it out when we bought it that we used the roof and its the same as yours regarding the bleeping continuing once the roof is fully up and ours was full up as the tent portion was taut.
When we started the engine on ...

Re: Roof Motors Advice - Bongo 2.5TD 1999

Not sure its possible to diagnose remotely, I suspect you really need to compare parts:- Tent, Roof itself, sliders, cantilever arms, gas struts and see what is what. I guess you must have an Aero tent, but maybe its the shorter gas struts that aren't allowing it to go fully up, or its mismash of ...

Re: Roof Motors Advice - Bongo 2.5TD 1999

A bit more complicated than this, the older roof cantilever sliders that do the raising are different from the later Aero design as they (the aero ones) had to reach 3" higher in the same length of travel, but in the lowered position couldn't be any longer than the original ones in order to fit on ...
