Re: Water in cylinder 2

I've got a chain-thing in the garage, don't buy one!

One thing to remember with the bradex/ start ya bastard is that you should put it in as close to the engine intake as possible, if you squirt it in at the air filter, your entire intake system (2 meters of tubes, turbo, intercooler) will be full ...

Re: Water in cylinder 2

mm-kay - hopefully its that simple!
filter replacement on the van was quite straight-forwards, but did require pre-filling.

Re: Water in cylinder 2

its a long shot, but look at your fuses, there must be a "lift pump" that sends fuel from the tank to the injection pump.

Edit: ok, it seems there may be no lift pump, so could well be some sort of air lock, its possible the fuel has drained back.

Re: Water in cylinder 2

I'm still wondering if there is any sort of fuel bleeding needed as the injectors have been off.

Re: Water in cylinder 2

I've now had a look at what the procedure actually said, its not to do with sealing the head gasket as such, just sealing the minute potential gap between the block and timing gear cover where the gasket runs over it.

I did note a small white sealant strip in that area on the gasket itself ...

Good Luck.
God no, they would have stripped the threads at 1/10th the head bolt torque!!

The valve clearances were set before it was delivered, the folks at Wigan Engines say they always do that.

Also the block, they confirmed, was new. The recon on the receipt referred to the re-used parts. Seals etc. were new.

Re: Water in cylinder 2

AFAIK, MLS head gaskets are designed to be used dry (They have a thin coating that melts into the surfaces)

Re: Water in cylinder 2

Actually the "Torque X + Y degrees" is fairly normal where stretch-bolts are involved - why not just specify a torque? I had a look and it seems more common on alloy heads, where the dry bolt head has a tendency to "stick" to the aluminium when past the low initial measured torque, meaning actual ...

Re: Water in cylinder 2

For what its worth I only use Blueprint ADC 42105 oil filters, they are fitted with a NRV.

You could also go to the Compatible parts database and have a wee look.

Ah cheers for that, maybe next time. I just picked up the new Crosland now. And the new camshaft locating dowel from Mazda... should ...

Interesting that. Would a symptom of not having a non return valve be a short interval of noisier engine running and dashboard oil ...

Re: Water in cylinder 2

done with two 12in spanners (17mm) hooked onto each other in a very smart but simple way (sure you've probably all seen it before) me holding the cam nut with a wrench, the other man pulling the locked spanners.

The "2-spanners" is very much like the "3 Sea-shells" - its a complete mystery until ...
