Thanks NB. More solid advice.
So, just to be sure, I should not expect the fans to come on until the stat is fully open at around 95 degrees?
It sounds like perserverance is the key.
I feel like its the night before an exam!

Re: Overheating problem
I'm going in to the garage tomorrow at 1pm to do a bleed with the mechanic.
I'll be studying those you tube clips tonight again.
I'm also going to take my thermometer and strap it into the funnel so I can monitor the water temperature.
Just so as I'm clear. The bleed pipe comes off the top of the ...

Re: Overheating problem
I've tested the second new stat tonight. I noticed it start to open at 84 and was fully open by 95 degrees C.
So I know this stat is OK.
If we go with the worst case scenario of the new head failure, they have recently done a pressure test and checked for gasses in the coolant and both were ok ...

Re: Overheating problem
Incredibly frustrated now!
Todays update.
Mechanic removed stat and bled.
Took it for a road test and everything stayed cold. Temp gauge never moved and heaters blew cold.
Left to cool down. Put new stat back in and bled cold including releasing air and water from the stat housing to ensure no ...

Re: Overheating problem
Once again some sound advice which I really do appreciate.
Air lock in the bottom hose sounds very likely and will ask them to follow your advice.
I'll update tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Re: Overheating problem
Update.
Right then.
Over the last 3 months have had the following parts fitted. All brand new:
Cylinder Head
Main water hoses
Water Pump
Radiator
3, yes 3 thermostats.
The gargae just cannot get the thermostat to open during the bleeding process. They have even disconnected the fans but still no ...

Re: heaters blowing cold
I'm experiencing the same problem. I had my head renewed and have had persistent over heating problems since. The drop in cab temp in my case has been swiftly followed by the temp gauge rising so remain very vigilent.
I strongly advise you go back to whoever did the head. Did they bleed the system ...

Re: Driver's seat
Hi.
It was me who has fitted the MX5 seats.
I can't find the previous post and assume the guy who started it must have deleted it?
I can't upload images from the computer I'm on now - will do later.
The passenger seat was a straight forward fit. You have to use one Bongo rail and one of the MX5 ...

Re: Overheating problem
Garage have now decided the rad is not a problem and think the thermostat is defective as they can't get the bottom hose hot.
This is despite the thermostat being renewed twice in the last 3 months! They are now going to buy a Mazda one and fit and see.
Anyone know what temperature the thermostat ...

Re: Overheating problem
Update.
Garage topped up and took for a spin. Blowers all nice and hot and when they got back they noticed a cool spot on the radiator.
So, going for a replacement radiator and if I can't get the metal pipe done under the repair policy then I'm going to pay for that part myself for peace of mind ...

Re: Overheating problem
Northern Bongolow,
I need to go back a bit with this story.
A couple of months ago the head went. I suddenly noticed plumes of white smoke after driving 7 miles. I noticed the smoke first and looked at the temp gague which was at 11 O'Clock but then just shot up.
Turns out the head had cracked and ...

Re: Overheating problem
Trouble again!
So, garage fitted new pump and thermostat and I've only done around 50 miles.
About 2 miles into my journey today temperature gague rose and heaters are cold again. Again, no drop in water in the reservoir.
After my last experience I have joined the AA with a repairs policy so ...
