Re: Repairing rusted Bongo - worth it or not?
My Bongo had new inner and outer sills and rear arches 18 months ago.
I now find via my friendly MOT man that there is some serious iron worm in the chassis especially at the rear, at the young age of 76 I thought I would scrap it. After I sobered up I decided that I will buy a cheap MIG welderand ...

Re: Rotten Gearbox oil cooler pipes - HELP!!
Having now replaced the g/box oil cooler pipes and the flexi rubber pipes either end, I now find that there is a serious leak from the connector where the flexi rubber pipe connects to the cooler under the radiator. from my limited ability to crawl under the van it seems that there is an elbow which ...

Re: Rotten Gearbox oil cooler pipes - HELP!!
Thank you Geoff, I hadn't heard of mazdabongo before, ordered the steel pipes and the flexies for the ends.
Far better to replace with the original system than a lash up with rubber pipes.

Is there any further info on this please?
My aircon is also beyond repair and something like this would be perfect if available especially 12v.
Thanks.

Rotten Gearbox oil cooler pipes - HELP!!
The steel pipes from the gearbox to the oil cooler are rotten and leaking badly. Is the pressure in the pipes low enough that I can replace with rubber piping? I would of course prefer to replace with steel pipes as original but I looked in the Bongo shop but couldn't find them there.

Re: Bongo body shop contact info.
I had a load of welding done to my bongo by Poulton MOT centre tel 01253 896850.
The guy who does their welding isn't local, I believes he comes up from Burton-on-Trent where he renovates classic cars.
Not cheap (what welding is?) but he did an excellent job considering the amount of work involved ...

Perhaps not relevant in your case but...
My Bongo is a '96 2.5 diesel and I had this exact problem, hold light flashing and gearbox not changing higher than 3rd. I cleaned the crank sensor which was covered in road gunge and this cleared the problem, I don't know if your engine has the crank sensor ...

Re: Universal Joint" for the lower steering rack.
If its just stiff and notchy soak it with WD40 and leave overnight, then keep rotating the steering until it frees off, rinse and repeat.
Mine was exactly the same, gummed up with underseal. No need to spend £100, a £10 tin of WD40 will shift it.

Re: Hold light flashing, rev counter not working.
Remove the crankshaft sensor (one bolt) low down on the front of the engine, don't lose the O ring, there will be a little bit of oil messing up the sensor, wipe it's face and the socket out with a tissue and replace.

Re: Droplinks where am I going wrong?
I was told by a Bongo fan ages ago that the main cause of premature drop link failure was too high tyre pressure especially on the front.
I know that some have their tyres at high pressure for fuel economy but perhaps this has some bearing on it.

Re: which Sprinter wheel arch
My rear arches were replaced 8 years ago at great expense and are again rotting around the edges.
I've decided to buy a set of wheel arch trims from Van-X at £50 which come in primer and are bonded on.
Worth a try for the price I think.
These are the Sprinter arches I found after a search ...
