Diagnostic port

Hi all,
While poking about under the dash of my new toy (2.0 tin-top, 1999), I found the diagnostic port. I presume from the shape of the casing that it's not an OBDII port.
Is it possible to get a link cable to go from the Mazda port to an OBDII port? Does it communicate with OBDII code readers?
I could then plug my code reader into it and see what's going on with engine temperatures. (That's another story on another thread :?)
Thanks in advance for any replies,
Mark

Unless your a VERY late model, it doesn't talk OBDII it flashes lights at you instead for which you need an eyeball is all!

Hi.

On my 2003 2L tin top I've just bought I have the normal bongo type port on the passenger side, but I also have an obviously added port on the driver side that looks suspiciously like a standard ODB II.

Should I plug in my diagnostics reader and see what happens? ;)

Yes, those that have the added OBDII port will work it seems with normal readers.

I'm guessing that as mine's a '99 model it won't have an OBDII port then :( If it ever stops raining here I'll have a dig around under the driver's side of the dash just in case!!

I throw this in just in case one of the electrical experts can see if it might apply to Bongos. It's taken from a Polish forum, that I came across when investigating ABS warning light. I used an online translator which might explain the mangled English.

I couldn't upload the pdf so attach a link to it https://yadi.sk/i/xc5iK2wE3KZwDK

Well, I plugged my ODB II reader into the extra port on the driver side and it worked. No errors :)

I assume it was fitted when the conversion was done.

The ones I've seen pictures of appear to have been added at manufacture, but do indeed look like an add on.

Interesting. I'll follow the wiring back and see where it goes.

Can you see live data like injection duration, O2 & maf volts etc?
Can you post the ECU number?

I'll plug in again at the weekend and see what's available.

Hi.

I plugged in the reader again and I do indeed get live data from lots of sensors. Not sure which menu would give me the ECU number.

The harness and bracket look pretty factory fit to me.

Sorry for the delay.

It will be on the ECU itself.
I would also be interested in a pix of the Mazda diagnostic port under the glove box if that`s possible.
