Bongo Fury

Did a 470 mile round trip this weekend and managed 40.8 mpg on the way (sped upa bit on the home run to 60mph so it probably dropped a bit on that leg of the journey) I have the 2.5L diesel.Used brim technique.

16.36L consumed = 3.6 gallons = £19.96

147 miles traveled with 1 stop

147/3.6 = 40.833

Also had double dose of Millers Diesel Power Ecomax in there. (£2.00 worth) Average speed 54 mph.

So that is £21.96 cost with the Millers additive.

I am well happy with that.

No but it closely tallies with a google earth mileage as per the route I used to close to where the petrol station was.

I managed the same bb123 and no-one believed me either. But it definitely can be done

Thanks Bob I don't doubt it Mike. It was mainly M25 and A303 (not exactly the flattest of roads either) I drove specifically in mind with maximum economy and no traffic jams helped. I did 39 mpg last year with traffic jams and an urban detour cause of the jam en route to Wales.

I usually do 55-60mph but find 50-55 mph = maximum Bongo efficiency.

If your engine is not mangled anyone with a diesel can do it.

1) Correct tyre pressures
2) Well maintained engine with good quality oil (2 mth old Magnatec right now) and clean air filter
3) 50-55mph
4) Anticipate least safe breaking required when coming to roundabouts (if any)
5) Smooth gentle acceleration
6) Millers Diesel Eco max additive (which has cumulative usage benefits over time IMO)
7) I run a can of BG244 fuel injector cleaner 6 months ago. (high strength cleaner)
8 ) No air con - you lose 2-3 mpg or so as it is engine driven in part

The additives can pay for themselves many times over in 1 year and are significantly cheaper than adding supreme diesel.

I will find out what the emissions are like as it is in for MOT today. Be interested to see if they have dropped from the previous year.

Might have to try some of the millers additive. I do and always have used reddex in all my vehicles, not sure if it makes a difference but never had any probs with an engine that we have used in. All high mileage 15000 a year including bongo.

Sounds good, never tried Redex before but the Millers made a small immediately obvious difference all round. Smoother running, better starting, slightly quieter and better economy and/or power.

No word on MOT yet.

Off topic but failed MOT on 1 point...offside front suspension arm, being sorted for reasonable price by my local Bongo experienced garage. Shame not a straight pass but could be a whole lot worse than that!

I achieved my 40+mpg without any additive so not sure its essential. The right conditions are helpful though I suspect as a good charge to the turbo might be a key element and that would be affected I guess by atmospheric conditions. Type of driving/roads is obviously a key factor.

What is a charge to the turbo mean Mike?

£85.00 is a very good price for a lower suspension arm (Wishbone) even without fittin,, is that a second hand one.?
