Best to just go cheap and cheerful?

your size and weight
these affect comfort and price and design, consider where your bum/thighs are in relation to any cross member / bracing.
another 2 things matter
chair size and weight
assuming you fit in the chair size matters in terms of storage location in/ out of the Bongo
we have absolutely beutifull chairs we use in our pennine folding camper but cant consider using with the bongo
another 2 things matter
price
cheap steel (may require additional assembly like flicking a clamp over that gets forgotten and chair is **********
Aluminium (generally better designs, deep pockets required)
what are you going to do with them
sit reading a book for 6 hours eat at a table

Like you said, it will be for eating/reading/chilling out etc.

Is it worth paying extra for chairs that pack down well?

I find the cheap ones aren't that comfy and tend not to last a season.

Worth sitting on a few different ones at your local friendly camping shop.

I bought two 'moon chairs' from Aldi at the weekend for £19:99 each. Thought they were a bargain! Then got them home and sat on them. Ouch!! The bar at the front dug into the back of my thighs. Not at all comfortable. Took them back and got my money back. However, the following day I went into Blacks and found they had an offer on some Eurohike high back camping chairs for the same money as they had a sale on with £10 off. What a bargain, lovely and comfortable. Don't know if the offer is still on but worth a look. It was only last Friday.

Cheap ones break in no time. You get what you pay for really. I also have some eurohike chairs....they're the umbrella folding type but much better quality than the supermarket ones. We've had then 3 years now without so much as a tear

Unless you have the Tardis version of the Bongo, compact packing is vital, even if heavy, but comfort is number 1 requirement.

I have some lightweight alloy tubular "directors" chairs...they fold flat...very pricey, but we've had that set for 20 years!...I'd say they were worth the ol' sausage 'n' mash!

These are what we use now. They're not small but they are very, very comfy and because they're slightly padded they seem to help keep you warm on the cooler evenings. Just make sure you set an alarm to get up, I've fallen asleep in them many times

I've got a Directors Chair too, comfy, with it's own little tea/beer/wine shelf
Folded, fits behind the front seats (in my side conversion) with a bungee round it.

I have the same as hairyneep although mine are branded as Vango. Very comfy.

What I also have is a couple of three legged stools which are extremely compact and versatile for working with a barbecue or Ghillie kettle close to the ground and with the addition of a tray or free cupboard door, like wot I got, converts into a stable side table.

If you are purely looking for the cheapest (personally I am, because they are likely to get damaged in some way anyway) I've just popped down to The Range and they had 2 for 14 quid which was the cheapest I could find online etc, that said I'd not looked particularly hard but they seemed well enough built and 7 quid each seems OK
