Bored with Butties phase 9
I don’t know about you but most cookbooks I have contain maybe only one or two recipes I would regularly use or even try. I do have one though which has loads of great dishes in it, so much so that it has fallen apart from regular use. It is by a Scottish couple Doug Bell and Rhoda Robertson who embarked on an extended trip of the southern United States and into México, on their way picking up authentic recipes which they then compiled into a book, Two Cooks and a Suitcase. They then set up Lupe Pinto’s delicatessen in Edinburgh which is a crucial source of supply for all your Mexican groceries, either on-line or whenever you happen to be passing through Edinburgh. The book is still available, and if you buy a copy in the store you can get it autographed by the authors
They planned to publish a second book, the Half Canned Cooks, focussing mainly on tinned foods. Several years on the book has still not been released but the concept still holds good especially for in-Bongo food. All those sumptuous delights you can rustle up armed with just a few random tins of mackerel, AlphaBetti and sprouts
Let’s try a bit of Word Association....
Tinned food

Spam®

Monty Python

Hungarian phrasebook

So for today’s lunch, how about Spam® goulash
Onions, garlic, tin of potatoes, tin of Spam®, tin of paprika and a tin of tomatoes.
Heat some oil in a large saucepan, add the onions & garlic....
....paprika (not the whole tin )....
....spuds....
....tomatoes....
....Spam® ....
....garnish with yoghurt & parsley and serve with bread
My hovercraft is full of eels

Re: Bored with Butties phase 9
Looks GOOD Muz, but, after reading the intro, I take it you just substitute the spam with mackeral, tomatoes with AlphaBetti and the spuds with the sprouts?
Sounds good to me.

Have you ever tried tinned sprouts?blobber wrote:...I take it you just substitute the spam with mackeral, tomatoes with AlphaBetti and the spuds with the sprouts?...
Mackerel, AlphaBetti & sprouts must be like tinned baby-food
When I do that one, you'll know I'm running short of ideas
Possibly phase 10

It's about time you produced a Muz's Mobile Kitchen book?......
Still don't suppose you get much time when doing your UK touring....... ......getting out there every weekend.... well that is what having a Bongo is all about.... . no point having it looking pretty on the drive and going out once every few months......

I'd be blown away lol
If you need ideas or challenges for the next phase I can throw some your way
Try finding a recipe with nothing to do with cows or chickens tis not a joke I have allergies to anything related to them
My fave books are 'Revolting recipes' and 'how to feed your family for £5 a day'
Oh and ready steady cook but that's just for the dancing
alphabetti is only good for writing not eating
