Alternater

Help my alternater is giving out 16volts,and the battery is charging up to this.Anyone any idea,or had this befor.Checked the voltage to the field wires 0.I supose that if its not getting the battery voltage it will give out as much as it can.

Sounds like a dodgy regulator in the alternator slasher - best get it sorted soon or you'll fry the battery

After trawling through past entries came on a symilar problem.The answer was given by Pipin who pointed out that the meter needed checking before we comdemed the alternater and on taking his advice it was a low battery in the meter and there was nothing wrong with the circuit.
