Bongo Fury

my van is pulling to the left. Tracking has been done many times, no change. It had been ok, then my better half asked me if i had hit a kerb as it was pulling to the left. Checked the brakes and tyres ok, tracking been done. Any ideas, it is 4 wheel drive, dont know if that can cause a problem.

Have you checked tyre pressures, any difference can make a pull on the steering.I am also sure that I read somewhere on Forum about swapping wheels round curing a steering pull problem.

tyre pressures are good. Can only swap tyres front to back because they are directional tyres.

Try swapping the wheels around left to right, i had a mysterious wobble once ,and swapped the wheels around eventually ,after spending loads of cash on fixing the wobble! There,s no harm in trying... and its free!

Anybody know if 4 wheel drive can cause my van to pull to the left

I cannot swap my tryes left to right, only back to front, because the tyres are directional.

a lot of it is due to the camber of the road
had this trouble with my jeeps
they tend to want to drift to the left on certain roads not sharply but on some roads you are very aware of it
took me a long while to get used to it nice bit of road no worries bit more road whats happening bit more road ok again makes you think you imagine it for a while
i did rotate wheels etc got the tracking done it`s just the nature of higher sided vehicles, i think you tend to notice it more
also noticed it in my mates hiroof toyota hiace (needs must ok)

Yes you are right the camber does pull the van over.

Best way to expain my fault is, if you are going very slow (just crawling), you can see the steering wheel kicking left, its a dam nuicance, and bugging me. I cannot let go of the steering wheel.

You seem to have covered all the usual causes. I can't see why the 4WD should pull to the left (mine doesn't) unless your nearside front wheel isn't actually being powered. It seems a long shot, but have you checked the driveshaft?

try swapping the front wheels and go backwards if they are directional

swap em go for a spin see if it changes anything just an idea

As a second thought it could possibly be a sticking brake calliper? does the bongo roll freely when in neutral? Try feeling the temperature of the left and right hand wheels, if the left one is noticeably warmer then the right hand side, you could have a sticky calliper.

I have checked my brakes, they looked ok, but no harm checking again cheers
