Are any of you techies able to explain why my local Ford dealer tells me that the service interval for a Ranger is 6,000 miles, but the Bongo book says 5,000 kms (3,150 miles) for the Bongo/Freda? I thought they had the same engine. OK the Bongo is a bit of a lump, but the Ranger's no lightweight either. Better cooling on a Ranger given that the engine is in the breeze up front, not tucked away in the middle?

Is that right Dandy? Do you know what gives the Bongo the extra power?

The cylinder head is different, probably a better flowing item. It will house a different profile cam also, well, the automatics will anyway...

Sorry.got my figures wrong there it's about 20% more power - 109 PS for the Ranger/B2500 and 130 (ish) for the Bongo
LIke bigdaddy says............could be in the head/cam design and turbo boost. If it's in the head then I have my doubts whether the new heads advertised on Fleabay are as suitable
Anyone confirm/deny this?

I have had mine serviced every six months for the last three years and not had any problems yet, to me it seems 6 months is just about right.Happy motoring.

We are soon approaching our first six months. She came with full service, and cambelt change. We have done relatively little mileage 1000-1500 miles. What should we be booking her in to have done?

Personally i service at 3000 miles, or every six months, whichever arrives sooner. I go a bit over the top with servicing on my cars,my everyday hack is a ford focus turbo diesel estate, which is now showing well over 200,000 miles i service that every 5000 miles, and have never had any reliability problems, which i like to put down to my strict servicing schedule...
