Bongo Fury

Started Bongo up this morning lots of white smoke for about 10mins roughly. Just travelled back from Holmfirth to Blackpool , everything ran smoothly.no problems with water temperature etc.Usualy do get a little bit of white smoke but there was more this time.Also the weather was colder last night.It looks like i am going to have to replace my Glow plugs.Been reading feedback on this subject it seems there are all different sizes. Our Bongo is 1998 - SGL5-2.5 DIESEL 4WD.Can anyone give me some advise to what size i would need as i will need to go shopping. Thankyou. Andy

Are You sure its glow plugs AndandDen.Have you been monitoring this for a while or is it the first time its happened this morning.
Even deisels emit some steam from the exhaust on mornings like these with damp and cold.I would monitor it first see how it goes.

If it started OK, it's not likely to be glowplugs.

Thanks Dabongo. It did seem to take a while for the white smoke to clear.It was the first time it has happened we have been camping for a few days,didnt move the Bongo much just started it up and running for 10mins or so. We were getting a bit worried when all the white smoke took so long to clear especially as we were in a campsite surrounded by ducks .Anyway will follow your advise Dabongo and monitor the situation for a few days. Has any other members had this problem?. Many thanks again. Andy and Denise

And and Den,
I only suggested this because I noticed mine with steam from the exhaust this morning.The white smoke that comes out when its glow plugs hangs around a bit and it stinks.Just normal steam soon clears away.
I wouldnt worry just monitor it to make sure.
Anyway did You have a good time?

I have the same on my Bongo.
It actually did it for quite a while when it was cold outside. Then one day it missed a beat on one or two of the cylinders when starting. I thought it was definitely time to change the plugs which I promptly did.
Now its starts beautifully but on nippy mornings it still smokes for half a mile or so.
When it isn't cold over night then it does it a lot less or not at all.
Don't know what it is but my two guesses are either the injectors or a slightly leaking headgasket which seals itself once up to temperatur.
Someone also mentioned that the Turbo could leak a little bit of water which needs to be blown through the piping first before it stops smoking.
