LAYING UP OUR BONGO

We are going to be away in New Zealand for some five weeks.

Our (my!) Bongo and our (her!) Vectra will be sitting on the drive for all that time.

Do I need to prepare them in any way before we go?

Should I leave them with the handbrakes on, in gear, in Park or what?

Shouldn't be any problems for just 5 weeks.
Leave them in Park or gear - do not use handbrakes otherwise handbrake shoes can rust to the brake drums.
You could disconnect Bongo battery but not the Vectra one, as the computer would probably need resetting.

Laying up the Bongo for 5 weeks won't be the problem, it's getting on the return flight that will the issue. We spent 6 months in NZ and loved every minute of it. We travelled round in a Mazda E2000 camper (AKA Mazda Brawny) for 4 months. Fantastic :D :D :D :D

My advice; forget the Bongo for 5 weeks and enjoy your trip to the max.

Best to sit down with them at a suitable time and gently break the news to them over a cup of strong tea - you know it makes sense..........

for the bongo,... leave in park, handbrake off, a few extra p.s.i. in the tyres, brimmed fuel tank, (less room, less condensation). for the vectra, leave the keys in it,they'll nick owt these days!  Happy hols!... bring me back a checkin brist!

Interested to hear your views, as we will be doing the same as pippin, but only for 3weeks.
Can you explain the need to disconnect the battery on the bongo and is it the main or the leisure or both, that we should disconnect?

Probably no need at all unless you have any electrical items on all the time.
Can't see any problems for just 3 weeks - leave in Park without the handbrake.

Our Bongo has been laid up (parked) for seven weeks. Just got out and locked it in December. Handbrake on etc, just like if you were leaving it overnight.

This weekend just unlocked it and got in and started it...

...and of course it started first time.
