Exhaust Back Box fell off earlier today.

I have just got a Tel quote from " Longlife " at Leeds £329 fitted, this
is from the Tail pipe up to the Cat.

Seems a reasonable price and comes with a Lifetime guarantee.

Have you checked previous threads, including debate about stainless steel exhausts. I think some of the SS ones were no more expensive but cant recall (much these days!) .

A local Bedlington Garage said they would order a Steel one fitted
for £225 but he doesn't know when it would be in.

Anyone know of a North East Manufacturer of Stainless Exhausts ?

Mine fell off last week when a car refused to pull over
and I had to get on the verge . I was on the way to
a hospital appointment and in a howling gale and pouring
rain. Hit traffic jam with clanging underneath, stuck for
half hour; panicking that I would be late. Big crash by
Huntingdon station resulted in palpitations and traffic
behind keeping most respectful distance; clattered most
carefully to car park and noticed , in my frantic dash to
reception , box hanging one end on van and other residing
upon road! Wonderful Dr. sat me down, listened to my
tale and caring nurse went out in rain to put notice on Ollie.
Afterwards called rescue service, limped to St. Ives and
Ollie now has a nice new exhaust. £207. 81p plus lot of
panic ! Hinchinbrooke Hospital staff are wonderful :D
Half-hour appointment took all day!

Hi there shane,
Be aware though that when you get a quote for a steel exhaust, it will be mild steel! In other words it will eventually rot through again. Manufacturers fit mild steel exhausts to vehicles to help keep initial production costs to a minimum. A stainless steel (shiny) exhaust system will easily outlast another original, and probably outlast the bongo. Longlife specialize in stainless systems, and i think you will have a choice of style of tailpipe, and a lifetime guarantee.

I had a Longlife exhause fitted in Swansea about a year ago, and have been very happy with it.

I say "Go for it, Shane". Stainless steel's the right answer.

Cheers

Chris

My local Motor Spares shop recommended the below mentioned.
A.A.S Advanced Automotive Systems Ltd.
Unit 19 Mercia Way, Bells Close Ind Est Newcastle Upon Tyne
NE15 6UF
Tel 0191 2673718.

I took it down for an estimate and it is booked in on 13th Feb
the earliest date available, normally over 3 weeks. Not good for
a rush job but is saves me travelling down to Leeds and back and
the petrol costs.

Here's the hard pill to swallow. £360 fitted and L T G.

Thanks Shane

Our exhaust back box fell off Friday 2 Feb, it broke close to the back box so Dave was able to unclip and go. When we got home I went surfing for a new one and was scared at the first price I found, nearly £300 BUT THEN thanx to ebay I found a new one for ... £59 + £7 postage the ebay member is united_automotive with an e-mail address of [email protected] We are waiting for it to arrive and Dave is planning on fitting it himself (good luck Dave !) the seller says next day delivery but allow for weekends. Hopefully it will arrive soon and will prove to be what we need.
Good Luck with yours
