Central Locking

We wonder if anyone can help? To cut a long story short (ish), we went away for Christmas, stopped for a coffee and then Bessie wouldn't start again. AA came out and got us going but said we could do with a new battery, it wasn't holding the charge. Got a new battery, found the old one looked like an original! Anyway, since then we have no central locking which is a pain in the proverbial. Someone has suggested to us there may be a way of re-setting it. Any one any ideas please? Thanks in advance.

Is it remote control central locking?
If, you may need to get the unit inside the driver's door to recognise the key fob(s) again.
Somewhere I have the details.........

Yes Pippin, it is remote central locking. Oh well, more money I guess! It is not an option for Les to do it and I don't even drive. Still we have had just over a year of trouble free driving Bessie, so maybe the problems start now!

It is not too difficult.
Hardest part is removing the driver's door panel.

Thanks Pippin. Not sure Les can manage to get the door panel off from a wheelchair, but we'll see. Never know, I may be able to do it with his guidance!

Just to let you know problem sorted. No money spent or required, nothing touched just magically the proverbial got untwisted and it now all works fine. Thanks Pippin.

Our one has had an off week! Central locking is somethng we have never had before on any car. Have got used to it after just over a year of having Bessie, so it was really annoying not to have it. Kept forgetting to check the doors were locked! For it to come back so suddenly was unexpected. Thought we were going to need deep pockets.

Hi guys and happy new year! I missed that the post was from you or I would have sympathised earlier. I feel a bit implicated in your decision to buy so have some sense of guilt if anything goes awry. I am glad it all fixed itself automagically, but that is the mysterious way of the Bongo!
If it helps, Ali shut our keyfob in the door and it broke off the key. Didn't take long to lose it after that and I have been without remote c/l for six months or so. Pain in the proverbial. However, I have decided to get a new remote, change the receiver in the door, and make the whole thing a lot cleverer linked to an alarm I have yet to buy. Now I just have to get a round tuit, and dig deep.
Glad you guys are well and look forward to meeting again in '07. Maybe make you another breakfast, nudge, nudge.
Cheers,
Simon and Alex

I think spare transmitter keyfobs cost about £50.
Each transmitter fob has a unique code.
You then programme the unit in the driver's door to recognise it.
It will recognise up to three different fobs.

Have to admit, our SpaceWagon had remote, but it went AWOL soon after buying it. Never bothered to mend it and got by just fine (central locking was the bit that really mattered). Mango Bongo doesnt have remote, and its one less thing to go wrong I reckon. Not that remote isnt v convenient cos it is!
I'm not making sense. Time for bed.

Are they really £50 for a new keyfob? I had a toad thatcham cat two alarm and immobiliser, with remote central locking and two keyfobs, for an all in fitted price of £180! If you have to buy the alarm as well as a replacement key fob as well simon h, you may be as well to get a new system installed by pro,s. Although mine has a three year guarantee, the guys at A1 who fitted it said they'd sort it even if it went out of guarantee...
