Bongo Fury

Hello Bongopeeps,

Arnie has sprung a leak tonight coming home from work.Unfortunately I dont have much idea what to do with it so any input will be greatly received.
See photo it seems to be coming from the main hose from the engine at a junction which is roughly on a level about 10 inches in from the drivers side.
It is a pinprick hole that is spraying water up onto other pipes above then running off.
I at least managed to get home it was here where I discovered it.

Again any help greatly appreciated Is there a temporary repair I could do to get it to a garage.Yes I do know that it will drain all the coolant.I am going to let it cool off and take a closer look at it.

...and there's me hoping to buy one on Thursday and set off for 400 mile trip straight from the vendor. Gulp!

Better print out that list of friendly Bongo owners and garages just in case

hi the hose is held on with sprung clips, they come off with a pair of plyers, if you can get them off replace with jubalee clips and new hose not a big job ?

I have found a neighbour mechanic who will have a look at it in the morning.He has never worked on a Bongo before but He is confident he can sort it for Me.

Bloody hope so!!!

Any help with this problem would still be greatly appreciated anyway just in case.

In reflection I didnt do too bad with Arnie I have owned it since the end of July 06 and this is the first problem I have had its still good for a 10 yr old vehicle.

Dave when your friend repairs the hose, get your coolant refilled, but do make sure you get the system bled, do not run her till you get her sorted, you do not want to overheat

Yes I would agree with Pete, I had a leak, I only first new of it when I could smell hot antifreeze and noticed I was loosing a little bit of coolant.What I did was to run it up to temp,park up and lift up the seats and lo and behold a fine jet of steam coming from my top hose,sorted,but you will have to have the coolant topped and bled properly this is must

No its not under the seats its outside drivers side about 10 inches in from the cill.
Hopefully it will be fixed in the morning!

Thanks Pete and neil/di in a strange sort of way this could have worked in My favour as I dont think the coolant had any anti freeze in it

So I will get that sorted as well,its shankses pony I dont like especially to work!

You might want to check the fluid levels etc. before you head off - but not all of us have had coolant problems - touch wood.

BTW if you're in alty and need any advice pm me. I've had a bongo for year and half and is my commuter car at the moment. Done quite a few of the more common fixes over the months - happy to help if you have problems. Not going anywhere at the moment 'cos I've got a fractured ankle!

Dabongo, if no anti-freeze in coolant, check all metal pipework for rust and check that the radiator is not full of crud. I would also have the thermostat checked whilst you are at it, as mine was not operating quickly enough when the coolant was not up to strength

Boy am I a happy man Arnies back on the road leak fixed

My mechanic neighbour came up trumps and sorted it and whilst He was there spotted another impending disaster in checking all the hoses while the engine was hot found two other hose problems nearer the engine which He also sorted for Me.So He really has got Me out of the mire. What a guy!!!
So I am well pleased with a system flush leak check and fix and an antifreeze treatment which it was lacking.He did say that it was a bugger to bleed the system but was impressed by the Forum factsheet that I had printed off to help.He actually used a Land Rover connection part to join the pipes that were part of the initial leak and a few jubilee clips.

See pic of the fix that He did just in case someone else has the same problem.
