Intermittent ABS light

I have a year 2000 Petrol V6.

A couple of days ago, after about 10 minutes of driving the ABS light came on, and stayed on until I finished my journey.
Every time I have started the engine since the ABS light is off then after a few minutes it comes on and stays on.

Have read through information here about using an led diagnostic light and think that I understand the procedure.

However, I have a couple of questions-

Does the bongo store the faults or can they only be read if the fault light is illuminated?

When testing for codes is this done with engine running? Might sound basic to some, I just don't know.

Any comments appreciated.

Using the older style connector OBD1 (rather than OBD2), the codes are not stored once ignition is turned off. Not sure on the later styles after 2001.
You don't need the engine running but the power must be on so that the electrical system is powered up.

Thanks Geoff, just what I wanted to know.
