My rear heater matrix is not leaking but one of the metal pipes to it had a pin hole which I 'fixed' by cutting out the rusty section and letting in a piece of heater hose. However, this is proving difficult to keep water tight and I assume both pipes will be pretty rusty throughout so am expecting more leaks.

I was wondering whether there was a way to bypass both the heater and the metal pipes as I'd rather not go to the expense and hassle of changing them for the sake of a heater I don't even use?

Yes a common problem! You have two sets of pipework to the rear system;
Engine coolant for heating which needs to be disconnected and then bypassed to maintain the coolant flow.
The refrigerant for the air con cooling these are a bit more difficult as opening the system up will cause loss of refrigerant, but both the pipes can be sealed either by using a bolt down each or squashing flat and folding over to create a seal.

I'm planning to keep the rear blower as the dog likes a cooling breeze. My main concern is not having to replace the rusty metal coolant pipes, hence the bypass.

I was a club member but forgot to renew last time and Ian is on holiday at the moment.

If anyone has photos of where the bypass hose goes that would be great. I did find some old posts about bypasses by Simon Jones but his photos got nuked by Photobucket.
