Bongo Fury

I was out for a wee trip in my Bongo - a '95 2.5 diesel - this weekend, and on a couple of occassions the speedo stopped working. The first time I noticed the needle "flicked" up, then dropped to zero and stopped working. I arrived at my destination shortly after, and parked up. When I set off on the next part of my journey, a couple of hours later, it was working fine again. On the journey home yesterday, when my mate was driving, the same thing happened, it did start working again around 10 minutes later, we didn't park up at all, but were in slow moving traffic. On both occassions I didn't notice anything else unusual on the dash, all other guages/meters continued to work as expected. The only thing that seemed common on both occassions was that it happened after being sat in stationary traffic for a few minutes. Wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

It might be a faulty sensor but it has also in the past been reported that simply cleaning the sensor after removing and cleaning the face from the gearbox output shaft has cured it possibly metallic swarf in the gearbox oil is "shorting" it out. You will find it towards the very rear of the gearbox held in I believe by a single screw.

Do you have a speedo converter fitted to make the original speedo read in miles?
Mine originally had one of these fitted & was having intermittent speedo dropping out, removed it & just fitted an overlay & the problem never came back
