Fuel Injection Pump Leaking

Hi, I’m new here (and to bongos) but no stranger to twirling the old spanner’s in anger. We have a 1997 Bongo diesel and it was great when we got it but now runs very rough and smokes when it’s cold. It improves when warm.

I had a look over the engine and found a leak in the fuel pump housing. After a little disassembly I found the leak to be between the housing where the injector pipes bolt to, and the main pump body.

My question is this…. can the gasket between these parts be easily replaced, or is it a more involved procedure?

In addition where can I get a gasket in the uk?

Many thanks masters of the bongo universe:-))

Welcome aboard!

Quite a few discussions here on the matter search.php?keywords=diesel+pump+seals+l ... mit=Search

Also a tear down here http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/Bosch_diesel_pump/ also a section on replacing the seals!

Not sure about replacement seals as I prefer the V6 petrol!

You can get a gasket. It cones in the Rexel diesel pump seal kit. (There may be other makes that I don't know of.)
It is complicated. All the parts can fall out of the pump when you seperate it. Keep the nose of the pump pointing down. There are 4 bolts on the end, where the delivery valves are. They can be very difficult to undo.
You could send the pump to a diesel specialist. Let them have the hassle. Then refit it. Or buy a refurbished pump.
