I’m Glad I Went To Bongo Spares….I Can See Clearly Now The Crack Has Gone

…I can see all obstacles in my way.

My windscreen cracked last week. Don’t recall a stone hitting it though there was a chip near the crack. I was concerned to get the replacement done by an outfit that knew Bongos (having read a few bad news stories about them being fitted at home by a large windscreen replacement outfit). 2gether explained that they as brokers don’t deal with this but gave me a number to call. This kept directing me to a large windscreen replacement outfit but eventually by perseverance I managed to speak to the insurance company (Highway, part of LV) and they agreed I could take it to a specialist. Bongo Spares confirmed they could do it. Of course they just use a local specialist but that specialist does a lot of Bongos for them plus with it being at their workshop, if any issues arise, they could hopefully be dealt with. And there were issues. First, the specialist said mine was one of the hardest he’d had to do. Second, he called me out to show me how a small rusted patch in the window surround had caused the windscreen to crack from a corner when the rust expanded. This is exactly what I had suspected might be the trigger (even if a stone did cause it to go). The windscreen and pillars were otherwise completely rust free and the cause he said was a previous windscreen replacement many years ago (probably in Japan I think) where they have exposed bare metal and not used an etch primer before fitting the new screen. The Bongo Spares guys were able to quickly grind off the surface rust and he then applied etch primer before replacing the windscreen.

Sorry for the long post about a simple matter but it highlights the value of having this ‘normal’ job done where the replacer knows Bongos and there is garage support where needed.

I can’t praise the installer and Bongo Spares highly enough from my experience yesterday. Friendly helpful people and a thoroughly hassle free experience with something that I had been apprehensive about. The installer even managed to unpeel my DAB aerial from the old windscreen and stick it on to the new one – more hassle spared! 8)

Well done Mike, and the Bongo Spares team. =D>

By chance I picked ours up from there yesterday, major work, but they have done me proud. 8)

Dang. If I'd known, we could have met up for a cherry cola ha ha. Yes I was impressed by how good the vibe was there. V pleased to hear you're sticking with the old Bongo - these old girls repay way more than we put into them so they have earned a little investment - there's nothing that does quite what a Bongo does, and so reliably, in my experience anyway :D

Hope you guys are keeping well. I've a nasty feeling that the Bash may clash yet again with another commitment this summer but if not I'll try and get to it this year.

Dohhh…

Never thought to meet up.

Fairly long journey up as there was train mischief, but Bristol, Birmingham, Bradford, came in at a bargain £11 on National Express, then Halifax and Rishworth on local busses. (Senior coach card.)

I stayed one night at the Malthouse just down from BS, pretty good. :)

Bongos that pass in the night ha ha! Keep us posted on how it goes with the Bongo at BS - I'll probably end up there myself one day (well the Bongo will, don't think they can fix my rusty parts   )

Can you believe it. 16 years and no issues with Bongo windscreen until earlier this year. New one fitted, first motorway trip the other week and a stone flies up and puts a small crack in it. Grrr. Its small and way over at the edge of the passenger side so I'm hoping not to have to fit another replacement just for that. But how irritating!

Dohhh… You couldn’t make it up.

Might be worth looking at screen repair liquid. [-o<
