Driver door locking mechanism issues

Hi all,
I have a persistent issue with the locking mechanism of my driver's door, where the locking mechanism won't disengage without some help.
The symptoms:

- When pressing the central locking button on the fob to unlock the door, the little locking know wiggles a little, but doesn't come all the way up. And the door won't open
- It is possible to get the door open by pulling the handle on the outside of the door while pressing the central locking button. The little knob still won't come up, but once the door is open, it's possible to raise it by hand. At this point everything opens and closes as it should.
- If you were to press the knob down again, it won't come up again unless the central locking is locked again, and the handle pulled while disengaging (like above)

It looks to me as the problem is somewhere with the component 58-310 as per this diagram:

I've attempted some grease in the locking mechanism (the black plastic that catches the latch on the chasis), but it somehow made it worse. The door now only opens when pulling the handle, putting some pressure against it, and pressing the fob to disengage the locking mechanism.

While experimenting I removed the door panel and before reassembling, it was possible to operate everything smoothly.
Is it possible that there's something catching inside the door while it's all assembled and it's stopping the locking mechanism from working properly?

Does anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Any suggestions on what might mitigate it? Any ideas whether some targeted grease could get it sorted?

Its not the central locking as such, that is merely a switch on the drivers door key barrel that tells a module to release all the other doors.
The problem is the Remote Fob solenoid that is mounted in the door and operates the latch and hence the key barrel, either the solenoid or the wire link to the latch is faulty and needs adjusting or replacement.
