Gearbox Gone!

Post by mascott514 » Fri Jun 03, 2022 11:08 am

HI there,

Just returning from a week in the Lake District.
On the motorway, low groaning, pulled in... limping in 4th I guess. NO reverse
AA came. No joy.
Trailers home.
obviously gearbox has gone.
Its a 1998 2.5d 4x4
Van is in good condition, but I am out of cash!
If I was able to source a recon box, any ideas how much it would cost ball park to change?

If not, what is a ball park that Spares or repairs are going for?
Its a rear conversion with MOT, ok underneath - its literally ok if the box is done.
Just want a rough ball [ark figure as I starting to look at selling as is. Had a few interested, but they not break cover and make a offer!

Just ball park would be helpful

Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox ? Its a known problem to have a leak in the pipes to the cooler.

Check out the normal sources https://bongospares.co.uk/shop/gearbox/ ... box-2-5td/
These companies do a range of spares, not all will have everything so try them all;

Hi, I would recommend having the vehicle check by a mechanic before you start chucking money at the problem. It could be various things /transfer box/viscous coupling /diff etc etc . good luck.
