Rear fog light 2000 X reg
So our Bongo has got a rear fog light mounted in the rear bumper
I’ve turned the front fogs on, they work fine
No rear tho
Another aftermarket switch on the dashboard, this doesn’t turn them on
Checked the bulb, that’s fine. It had that corrosion inhibitor grease on it, so it’s been well maintained.
Clearly it’s an aftermarket fitment so it’s a bit of a bugger! Anyone got any idea?
I thought maybe fuse but it it’s not a standard fitment then who knows - surely that would take out front ones too?
I checked the previous MOT certificates and one from some time ago mentions the rear fog light bulb having to be replaced

Normally you need to have the side lights or headlights on to get the rear fog to work.
Have you tested see if there is power to the positive in the rear fog? If there is then check the earth. If no power, try to follow the wire back up to the front or from the switch toward the rear. As these are not factory fitted the wires are not usually to hard to find as they are not wrapped up into the main loom.

A common place for the switch is down by your right knee, worth looking to see if there is another one there, and, as said, you likely need the headlights on.
Re: Rear fog light 2000 X reg
In case I wasn’t clear (it wouldn’t be first time)
Checked as thus:
Ignition on
Headlights on
Fog light switch depressed (fronts on, rear not)
Fog light switch depressed, extra switch below (right knee position) switched on (fronts on rear not)
Bulb checked - intact
Definitely need to buy a multimeter and check the wiring for continuity

The rear fog switch should have a tell tale incorporated, look for the wee tell tale .
Re: Rear fog light 2000 X reg
Like a little red LED inside it? It’s got that

Multimeters are good but for just checking for power the little screw driver with a light bulb in handle are handy ( or make your own up )
Halfords do them for less than a fiver.

As has been covered you need the headlights on.
You don't need the front fogs on for the rears to work but no harm in then being on.
None of the bongos came with rear fogs, so it will always be an aftermarket system.
IIRC ours takes a feed from the headlight wire, which goes to the switch. The output from the switch then goes straight to the rear fog. The wire is traceable under the vehicle on ours.
The negative for the fog is just to the body earth in the rear.
The switch also has an earth to the body, to allow the tell tale red light to work.
If the red tell tale light is working, then I would guess at there being a break in the wire from the switch to the fog. Or in the earth from the fog.

Also don't forget the earth connection to the fog lamp, as there added they sometimes are less than a normal approach to earthing the lamp.

I prefer to take a feed independent to any other lights, just straight to the switch .
