Mounts/cables under rear carpet

Post by Mikemole25 » Fri Apr 29, 2022 1:22 pm

Hi folks. I’m new here having brought my first Bongo this week.
I’m just stripping the carpet to board the back and happened across what’s in the picture....I wonder if anyone could shed some light on what these mounts and cable might be for?

Many thanks!!
Mike :)

Welcome aboard!

Doesn't look like a standard item for a Bongo Friendee, most likely some add-on device that's been installed at some time.
Best to follow back and see where / what it connects to and that might give you a clue!

Thanks Geoff...the smaller cable is just connected to the chassis, so just an earth I guess. The other goes into a silver box behind the dash and then terminates again after about a meter of cable. I guess it was some sort of AV add on.

That is the usual situation, someone put a picture up of 45' of wiring they had extracted from audio/video add-ons!

Any markings on the box that might ID it?

Thanks Geoff... I guess there’s gonna be a lot of Bongo quirks to get used to!

nth.....I’ve not been able to get good access to it yet....once I realised it was disconnected both ends I carried on with the floor. It’s fixed underneath the head unit...I’ll try and have another look tomorrow.

I’ve got the mysterious box out. Nothing on it to say what it is. The Jack plugs disappear up the passenger side by the windscreen off to the back somewhere. Who knows!!

If there are several aerial cables going to it then its most likely an aerial diversity switching box, it will switch in the best combination of aerials to get the signal mainly for TV as a lot of Japan is mountains and signals come from a variety of directions. See https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=aeria ... +switching

Thanks Geoff.... I wondered what these are on the windscreen....I guess they’re the aerials! All making sense now!

Yes you find a wide range of aerials on Jap. used vehicles, being a longish mountainous island(s) the signals are very hard to predict as to the direction they should come from hence the automatic switching!
