I can't believe this is so hard to find out!
Need to replace rack so need to know what fluid to use, lots of conflicting or vague notions on the interwebs about what to use.
Some say you can use Automatic Transmission Fluid, some say you can't or shouldn't unless emergency, but I am finding it really hard to find a power steering fluid to suit. Even the aussie translation of the service manual is vague, and the "enter your reg number" sites are useless for imports!
Can I use ANY Dexron II or Dexron III rated fluid?
Is something that says D2 the same as Dexron II or Dexron 2 ?
Does it matter if it says it is for Automatic Transmission or does it have to be specifically for power steering?
Does the colour matter? (silly question maybe... but seems to be a bone of contention out there!
The poorly bongo in question is '95 2.5L TD WLT 4x4 Diesel.
Thanks Hive Mind.

Re: What fluid for power steering?
Dexron is both a trade name and a standard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEXRON
So Dexron II or D2 and Dexron III or D3 etc. are all oils formulated to a given specified standard.
So I can't see why any particular make ought to be better than an another.
