Gearstick Hold Switch

I've spent ages looking through here and also Google, but all I keep finding is people having the "Hold light flashing" issue.
The switch on the gearstick doesn't work, but the Hold function does. I have tested this with a piece of wire to jump across on the block under the gear selector.
I know I've seen a thread about dismantling it but I cannot find it at all.
I know how to take the top of the selector off, but looking down inside I have no idea how to get to the actual switch.
Thanks
Matt

Not needed to remove the switch but I thought there were two screws retaining the top of the selector and then the switch could be unscrewed see this diagram

Those just take the knob off. I cannot see a way of extracting the actual switch.

Doesn't the switch unscrew? Here you go

That was the thread! Couldn't for the life of me find it.
Problem is, mine doesn't seem to come apart!
I had it in my head that with the selector knob removed all the buttons should easily come out, but mine don't seem to want to do that.
I even had a pair of pliars on it and still nothing, won't budge

If you can't get it off then I'd just cover the switch in contact cleaner, work it a few times, see if that does anything. It's an annoying problem but not a show-stopper either, I find I never use it. Or, if you were desperate, run a couple of wires and do a separate switch?

As I recall the chrome button is just a push fit on the switch operating bar, so try levering it out perhaps with a thin screwdriver each side to try and keep the button straight rather than bending/twisting at an angle ?

Well, I have no idea how it's supposed to be done, but even being very very careful, I've snapped the button off.
I think I'll be either sourcing a new top, or fitting a small switch myself.

I wonder if its been glued in after a previous attempt in a previous life ?

Nothing wrong with the damn switch
After cutting the wire up to the selector knob to fit a different switch that I had, I put the two wires together, and nothing happened.
It's actually a section of wire down to the connector block. So I've carefully removed the pins from the block, replaced the section of wire, fed it back down the cable run and reinserted back into the connector block.
I now have working Hold!
You can see the pins in the pic, the wire was just something I had of the same gauge.
Oh, I managed to salvage the top of the button and glued it back on, so it still looks original.
