Fuel pipe: braided needed for V6

Post by Mrs Feynmans Bongos » Fri Feb 04, 2022 10:33 am

I need an armoured fuel feed pipe, since critters keep chewin' mine  This being exposed on underside seems poor design :(
P*ssed best bit of 10 litres down the road yesterday, before I noticed gauge dropping like a stone: 4th occasion in as many years ](*,)

My pipe is hard rubber with 3mm wall, which I'm guessing is pretty standard. But critters seem to love it, when hungry.
Current one is marked "Fuel Gates Automaster 8mm Multi Carburant", which I asked to be spiral-wrapped in hard PTFE obvs to no avail.

A metal braided pipe is my next move, unless anyone has a better idea (storage, poison, tarmac, move house don't count).

Specific questions:
  1. How long a fuel pipe does a V6 need? (think I recall my last failed one presented by garage was 25-30cm).
  2. Would ZINC or STAINLESS-STEEL be better? I'm guessing SS will be harder, to hurt critters teeth, as they'll still smell the rubber.
  3. Any experience with non-rubber pipes like this one in PTFE? No appetising rubber!
  4. I found these with integral Weber/Dellorto fitment, will that fit to Bongo ok?
As ever, help appreciated from the lovely folks here :-({|=
