Mitsubishi delica
Mitsubishi delica
Evening all.
I've been looking for a decent bongo for a while now, and in the process, I have come across a new breed. Something I have never seen or heard of before.
A garage close to me is selling a 1999 mitsubishi delica 3l v6 petrol automatic (chamonix model) with 117k on the clock.
Until a week ago I'd never heard of it. The garage owner had it from the wife of the widow of an enthusiast, and is doing work on it to sell. Any1 had any experience of these beasts? Are they better / worse than the bongo? Is there anything specific I need to look out for?
I know this is a bongo site, but I've been on the delica forum and they don't seem as helpful or welcoming as you guys.

Re: Mitsubishi delica
They certainly always a good possibility with good ground clearance as well!
Re: Mitsubishi delica
There's a few BF members with Delicas. We are not fussy, all welcome......

Indeed, basically a Land Cruiser with a jolly useful body, something I'd consider.

Re: Mitsubishi delica
My neighbours got two, one which is falling apart with rust but the engine and everything in good condition and another he just bought so he's got all the spares he'll ever need. He swears by them for reliability etc but only runs it weekly on the drive to charge everything up, twice a year he goes camping in it, usually a race bike meet and a trek along the south coast on his jollies, I've only seen him work on it when he bought it a year back and the scrapper one he tried all ways getting it welded and tinkering with the lights but it just wouldn't go through an MOT. He offered my mate whose a garage owner £500 to pass it but Steve had just got his license for MOT's and sent him on his way, same bloke I take mine to as I know he's thorough and would rather it fail than be put through just because we're old mates.

Thanks everyone for your input.
If the price is right when he's ready to sell I think I'll go for it. It's a lovely bit of kit

If you do get it try and get along to Stourport, lots of us would like a good look.

Where's Stourport? I'm in South wales
Re: Mitsubishi delica
The Delica has the same good engine as the Pajero, see below. We've worked on lots of them, spare parts are available in the UK. They're nice and high off the ground and it's great that you can walk between the front seats.
We used to import Mitsubishi Pajero in the early 2000s. They had 2.5d and 2.8d engines. They were pretty much bulletproof mechanically, very reliable and great off road. The interiors were very good too.
The biggest fail point would be the water pump. If it failed, the engine would overheat, but so would most vehicle engines.
Not great mpg.

Stourport. 138 miles away. Nice trip in my new van if or when I get it.
Or if I get a bongo instead.
Either way I'll be a happy man
