Hello :)

Post by -Matt- » Mon Jan 17, 2022 8:08 pm

Hello all,
I joined a bit ago for research/lurking, and I'm now posting because I am now the owner of a Bongo.
I would have said "proud owner" but I'm still unsure that I've made the right choice as the van needs a few bits doing and I keep finding bits that someone has previously done badly.
I've ended up with a '95 on an N, 2.5D 4WD. I think its ok, the engine sounds ok, I have no idea what to expect from an auto as this is the first one I've ever driven, I think it needs ATF topping up and I hope it's nothing terminal.
I do know it's probably going to need new front driveshafts as its started making a noise on left turns and I noticed after buying it that the NSF CV gaiter is torn
I'm sure I'll be bothering you all with questions "Whats this do?", "Is that meant to sound like that?" etc.
Looks to be a lovely forum, and once mine has been serviced and had stuff done I look forward to sharing with you :)

Hello there!

If you top up the ATF make sure you measure it the right way, as its not a simple dip and pout to the level! See here https://www.allansvehicleservices.co.uk ... +Check.pdf

Welcome to the forum. Lots of our Bongos need a few bits doing to them, so you're in good company. 🙂 If you ever fancy meeting up with other owners, have a look here: viewforum.php?f=37
Allan's closed. in Plymouth we recommend PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services

Thank you for the welcomes :)

G8dhe;
I'd seen that site, it's what I used to identify the filler, I dipped it when warm, it showed full, although not red like described it didn't smell funny either.

Oh that's good then, several people have poured way too much in, in the past not realising that the level changes as the oil is used to fill the torque convertor when the engine is spinning!

Yes the initial translucent Red does change a bit with use after a while but should still have a reddish brown colouring overall.

Oh hoo! Engine was warm, not running, I will redip when running and see the effects.
Colour was that of new engine oil/ golden syrup.

Yes, though you said it loses some of this coloring? Under torchlight it appeared more like syrup?
