JAl Mushroom roof - mattress and access

Hello!
Finally picked up our campervan from JAL.
Those of you with mushroom rooves. What have you done about a mattress? I'd like to get something to leave in place but wit the side board dropping down when the roof comes down, it doesn't look possible. I'm sure it must be!
And the boards are really heavy and I wonder if it might be tricky to move speedily when needing to nip out in the night for a wee... Has anyone done any mods?
