Hi,

We have having problems with our Bongo V6 (2001). It has sluggish acceleration and a general lack of power. Engine idle is rough too. Took it to a garage and they replaced the spark plugs but still has the problems. They recommended replacing the coil - which I did today and on a test run still getting the same lack of power problems. Next they are recommending changing the HT leads. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas on this as we keep buying parts and not getting anywhere.

Thanks

Steven

Personally I would have worked back drown from the Plugs, leads, distributor cap, distributor arm before starting on the coil side of things which are common to all of the cylinders/plugs. A lot of problems seem to occur with the distributor cap and leads from reports here on BF.

Had this same problem….eventually turned out to be the plug leads where they cover the plugs shorting out to the cylinder head…it gets a bit oily/dirty n there….examiners very carefully for tracking marks…… don’t get cheap replacements.

It would appear that the engine could be running on 5 cylinder's, with the engine running remove plug leads one at a time. If you have one that does not make any differences to the idle speed or fluctuation. You can swap that lead with a known fully functional cylinder if the fault appears at that cylinder you have a faulty lead, if not it might be a dodgy cylinder ,your rev counter will give you a good indication of what's going on. Also you could ger a trigger spray with water and give the engine ign system a very light mist ,you do this when its pitch black.
