Wishbone ball joint nut

Post by sotal » Mon Nov 29, 2021 11:20 am

Can anyone confirm that the ball joint nut is just a standard M12 castellated nut?

I've ordered a new genuine wishbone but it doesn't come with the nut

I had to cut the old one to get it off.

I found them online at an extortionate amount but at least it gets me sorted. Just waiting for it to arrive now.

Measuring the thread it looks to be an M18. Well the thread diameter measured at 18mm with the calipers.

You might be better/easier with just a Nylock nut, probably easier to get and saves the need for a split pin and so on. Given most things have nylocks nowodays they may be cheaper now, not sure but at one time I was quite big on replacing all castelated nuts with nylocks, then you start to see teh downsides (mainly if you have to heat them to remove) and now I find castelated quite quaint and actually pretty good.

I managed to get a proper one at a slightly extortionate price, but at least it is sorted.

I'm pretty sure it was a standard M18 thread though. Not a size I usually keep in.
