Towing

Hi. I am already using my partner's Bongo for towing a horse trailer (nobody panic, it's a lightweight trailer with one pony in it - I am well within the weight limit and even did my B&E test with the Bongo).

Now I have my own Bongo (same model as hubby's), I am looking to replace the towbar on it (existing towbar looks rather rusty, the make / model are unclear etc). Parther's Bongo has a TowTrust bar on it, which has done us well so far. This one I think https://www.tow-trust.co.uk/towbars/mazda/friendee (TMZ168).

Any other recommendations for a heavy duty tow bar? A1 towbars do not seem to be going any more?

Bongo will be checked over at the local garage this week (recommended on here, we live literally just a few minutes from it). Should I remove (or attempt to!) the existing towbar to allow them to get a better look at any parts that may need welding in that area? Bolts look like they will be pigs to get out, any tips?

Welcome aboard. :)

Personally I'd let the garage see it in place and let them decide the best way forward.

Thanks :) yeah, probably easier, too! I crawled under a second time - I doubt I could get them bolts off with what I have at home tool wise

Yes you are doing the correct thing getting it inspected , these vehicles were not designed to be used for towing.
