Overheating??

Hi guys,
Right, I've just installed the tm-2 temp alarm. Sensor placed where it has been suggested by Haydn in the instructions. Thing is, I've just been for a quick 20 minute drive, first 10 minutes up a hill (I do live in Yorkshire), and a couple of stops for traffic. The temp went up to 96? Is that too high for that sort of journey?
I set the alarm for 96 after looking at other people's running temps on the forum.
Coolant is fine and was checked before I set off.

Just to add to this... it was hitting 101 by the time I got home!

What engine do you have? Maybe it runs at different temp to our lpg fitted v6 but our experience is that these alarms can drive paranoia to new heights...... if you've had the van for a while and it's been ok, it probably still is - a number is just a number. What's more important is a variation to the normal experience. The position of the sensors, even the tightness of fixing will cause a different reading.
For what it's worth ours runs in a range of 80-90 in the summer, sometimes as high as 98 climbing hills, this time of year it's lower. The alarm set 104 if I remember right. But as said these are indicative temps. Not an absolute measure.
Other's may disagree, but unless there are other reasons to think there's a problem, I'd raise the alarm setting and drive around those lovely Yorkshire hills as normal and learn how your van usually behaves then you have a base line to refer to. Then reset your alarm to just above your experience.

Wonder if I’m just being paranoid then? My journey was 6 mile with 3 off these a steady incline at the start.
What do others have their temp alarm set at (sensor is set at the back of the engine as suggested).
I think getting to 101 on a short journey like this is worrying... it worried me anyway, but I’m no expert! I moved the alarm up to 106, just to stop it going off while getting home.
Would it be worth risking about longer drive to see what happens?

Has the system ever been overhauled or flushed at any time?
What age is it might need a flush of the system ?

We’ve had it 3 years, it’s a 2001. I’ve never had the system flushed, not sure about the guy who had it before me.

Seems to crawl up hills at around 2500 revs... not sure if that’s worth noting, or just a Bongo thing?

That could impact on the temperature too then?

Not certain, but possibly if it's working too hard.

This might sound silly but, have you checked the expansion tank to see if it has coolant up to the Full line? That'd give you an indication that the system is leaking, or not.
Anything obvious blocking the radiator?

Radiator looks fine, put the air con on to ensure fan is working, so checked at the same time.
