ignition key stuck.

Afternoon Bongo peeps.
I have a problem with the ignition key not being released when parking up. I can see the issue is the release cable under gear lever and a bit of a push releases the catch and key can be removed. It's been like this for a while but having recently parked my Smart car in a ditch I have to use the bongo more often for little trips and it is beginning to niggle me. Question is this a known problem and if yes where is the sticking taking place, what has to come out to access it etc?

Here is the diagram, thought there was an adjuster at the ends to get the tension/length right, but is could be a snapped wire in the Bowden cable catching as well of course ? http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... o=.html#11
