Recommended garage near Weston Super Mare?

Hi - My Bongo wouldn't start this morning. Its turning over but won't fire up. It did cough at first, then a short lumpy turnover then cut out. I have had the van for a couple of months and it has run fine up to now. I have a reasonable knowledge of old cars and old/simple electrics, but have never worked on a diesel engine.

It seems like a fuelling issue. I will check the relay, fuses and fusable link.

If I don't succeed in getting it started, can anyone recommend a local garage -I am in Kewstoke near Weston Super Mare.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Other than the cooling system, and need to bleed it, the rest of a Bongo is pretty standard, so any competent mechanic should be ok.

ADS, South Liberty Lane, Ashton, are the nearest Bongo savvy garage I can think of, or there's a chap (Royston?) near Shepton.

Sadly, Protech, who were in Winterstoke Road and Nailsea, have long gone.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

The fused link, fuses and relay are all ok.
Unfortunately, I can’t take the van to a garage until I get it started so was hoping I could get a local garage to pick it up.

As the van had been running fine, do you think I should look at the fuel filter, fuel pump or glow plugs first?

Appreciate any further advice.

Regards, Jim

Really don't know, I'm afraid.

My skills are 'useful DiY', but I'm not a mechanic.

Some good while back mine dumped all the coolant on the drive and ADS arranged a flat bet to collect it. I thought the cost was reasonable, but you would need an up to date quote.

Of course everything is really difficult with the wretched virus.

Thought.

I don't know if there's a mobile mechanic near Weston?

Thanks Bob - I got the van started today using easy start. Its running fine. Seems like no voltage on the glow plug rail connection. Traced to a blown fused link. Thanks for you advice. Cheers, Jim

In that case check the busbar that links the power to all the plugs, when the shorter plugs are fitted the busbar shorts to the injectors and pops the fusible link. It will just need a little stretching around the edges to clear them properly.

Geoff - you are spot on!

The plugs were replaced by the PO. There are witness marks on both the injectors and the bus bar where the rubber has rubbed through. Can I "shim' the rail up using SS washers?

It's great to get to the bottom of the problem. Thanks very much for all the advice.

Regards,

Jim

There are several ways, some have added threaded extenders on top, others just reshape the busbar. Do a search on here and you will see several possibilities
