Starting problems

Hi all

I have an unusual problem (I think).

My 95 2.5 diesel struggles to start once the tank gets below about 2 thirds full.

While it will eventually start but just turns over until I catches and springs to life.

The accelerator pedal is also pretty non responsive for 10 secs and then the engine will rev normally.

Im not sure if this is a battery issue or a fueling issue.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

Try loosening the fuel cap and see if you get a 'whoosh' of air.

Possibly the breather blocked?

Thanks Bob I'll check that out later.

If I get the 'whoosh' is there a good way to unblock it or just stick something long down there and see what happens?

Thanks

Steve

I'm pretty sure Geoff has put up some pics on how to dismantle, and then clean, the filler cap. :)

The valve in the cap is just clipped in, there are a couple of variations can't remember if that was the diesel or petrol version but they are similar.

Sadly no 'whoosh'.

It still stuttered with the cap off.

Thanks for the advice but any other guesses?

Ahh well, at least you've eliminated that.

It must suck a bit of air somehow

Perished seals on the diesel pump would introduce air in to the fuel line.

As above with the pump, try parking it nose downhill see if it improves things.
