Dizzy cap question

Hi
I wonder if someone can help or advise.
I'm trying to track down a problem with my 1996 by being down on power.
It wouldn't start at all this morning after the rain but did with some generous wd40 onto the cap and leads.
However I noticed that it was well down on power and really struggled up hills.
I've changed the spark plugs and took the distributor cap off.
I don't think it is a standard cap. 4 of the contacts look fine but the other 2 are recessed into the cap. I'm not sure if they are supposed to be completely flush with the plastic casing and if they are just not making contact with the rotor arm.
Any ideas?

Is this a V6 ? As I recall they do look sort of recessed but can only see 5 of them ?

yes...after further reading it looks like I do have a standard dizzy cap and it looks fine so I probably need to look for another cause for the mis-fire.
The HT leads look OK on visual inspection.
Any advice on hunting down the mis-fire?
thanks

I've had this in the past, took each cable off and cleaned especially the plug and its rubber cap (remove cap to clean underneath), check out the plug wells common for oil to seep into them and gets dirty. Likewise the dis. cap but you have probably done this. Any damage to the cables consider getting a good quality replacement. These were my spark plug end caps before replacement!

Geoff, I had exactly the same on 2 of my V6s.

Yup, I think being boiled in hot oil for several weeks doesn't do them much good ;-)
