BMC 'A' Series - a little less Bongo.

Napier 'Deltic' - a lot more Bongo.

Probably only a matter of time before we'll be able to get an electric motor put in them for a reasonable price.

2.0 common rail diesel with 5 speed automatic gearbox

Are you planning on a manual or auto and 2 or 4wd

I have often wondered about this and always thought the newer engine would make a good swap. There is plendy of room in the engine bay and with enough fab skills anything is possible

I wonder if the Ford Duratech 2.0 or 2.3 which was shared with Mazda ine the MX5 and 6 and has a Mazda bell housing pattern could be made to fit.
for better still the 2.5 or 3.0 v6 from the ST Mondeo or Jag. can get rear wheel drive gearboxes from the Jag as well.

I’m going bmw you’ve obviously got a petrol mines a Diesel, engine And box is all in still needs all the wiring sorting and exhaust shouldn’t be to much aggro but I’m sorting out rust issues now sills arches etc

What about one of the Ford v6 engines I think one revs to about 8.6k tweak it a bit at least it would be a bit more relaxed than a steroid 300 horse il4

Is The 2.3 engine a v or inline and turbo or normal

I quite fancy the idea of a Chevy 5.7 small block V8 with autobox, I know where there's one going at reasonable money.

Would be quite the upgrade, not so much for the hp increase but the torque increase would be quite something.

As said before, my biggest worry would be the effect on drive shafts and diff.

Time to get the tape measure out.

As an aside, if people start fitting larger (and possibly thirstier) engines to the Bongo, is there a larger fuel tank that could be fitted without too much aggro? I've often wondered if anyone has fitted a larger tank to a stock Bongo given the less than ideal fuel consumption, I'm getting 26-28 mpg motorway and 18-20 mpg urban from my 2.5 diesel.
