Glowing T5 led bulbs

I have replaced all the bulbs in my instrument cluster with relevant colour led equivalents. The issue I have is that the ABS and battery/charge light stay illuminated after self checking and engine running. This appears to be due to a residual current still running through the circuits. Would adding a resistor to the circuits be the answer? Also I assume it would mean a little hacking and slashing at the twist connector? Any idea what resistor would be required to remedy this? Cheers!

The system is NOT designed for LED's. Its a bad idea to change the design without understanding or if there is no other choice. Wire ended miniature lamps available from CPC https://cpc.farnell.com/search?st=wire% ... lt%20lamps bear in mind that the system is designed to self test the lamps as they are warning lamps!

Thank you for your reply. Is the system only self testing the warning lights on the left side of the instrument cluster? Also the bulbs you link are different to the 286 T5 type that I removed. Is that for a specific reason?

The sizes do vary and also change with the year of the vehicle so I can't say just which ones fit its a case of searching for the type, try searching for T5 types I put wire ended in as mine tends to use that style in there own plastic holders. Not all the lamps are self testing the Sediment lamp for instance so it is combined with the Charge lamp which is "tested" by the alternator in that it lights them both when not turning and then turns off once the alternator is spinning, if the Sediment light stays on then its the Sediment trap that needs emptying, or if both stay on then the alternator has a problem!

That's why I only changed the backlighting & gear-shift to LED, the rest are filament.
The only bulbs glowing dim in this van are the top front ones, the switching is through earth.
As has been pointed out already, it's not always wise to change things to something unknown, the ECU will work on assumptions the bulbs are iffy.

Indeed anything to do with the ABS is not tolerant of LED's, people who change the brake lights find out that then disables the ABS which rely on the earth provided by the lamp to indicate that the brakes are not applied.

I have changed the bulbs in the warning lights back to regular ones. Thank you for the replies!
