Bongo Fury

I've a 2L 2003 tintop on 70k.
Over the last week I've noticed a constant rasping noise from the engine bay. No loss of power, temp fine and no obvious mechanical issues just this noise!
We only really run it once or twice a week. Wonder if its cold weather related or needs a squirt of WD-40 somewhere?!
Any clues anyone!

Does the noise increase with engine or road speed, or just constant?

Not really. Pretty constant and not that obvious in the cabin.
In fact I got home and could hear anything unusual.
Wondered if its the alternator?

Possible, I guess.

Google something like 'mechanics stethoscope', or try the old trick using a large screwdriver to listen to it.

Obvious, but just put the sharp end on the alternator and press your lug to the top of the handle.
