hi
So travelled 40 miles today without a problem.
Stopped to pick something up then when I started up again the "check engine" light came up.
Drove to a nearby supermarket for a coffee. Came back and no light (scratched head).
Travelled home the 40 miles all good. Stopped then turned the ignition and the light came back on!
Any clues?

Which engine ? If its the 2l then it may well be an overheated catalytic converter possibly affected by passing thru water splash in the current weather.

2L petrol.
Was damp today but not raining. Getting a diagnostic fault reader so it might shed a clue.

Lambda sensor maybe?
Had a service and MOT only two weeks ago.

so got an OBD II scanner, plugged it in but nothing.....grrrr!
Looks like its fitted but not connected? There is another older diagnostic port under the glovebox. different PIN layout . can you get a reader for that or would a garage have one?

Bit of a thread revival here: So I’ve had a similar experience in past. The diagnostic tool needs the engine running to give he fault code. Most likely an O2 sensor. If it’s that then a Bosch universal part can be spliced into the Bongy. Costs about £30 ish for part
