Broken down SOS

Hi all

Old faithful has let us down for the first time in 10 years. Funny grinding/whining noise, so pulled over at Stafford M6 (northbound) services. Waiting for recovery truck.

In the meantime I thought I'd put this message out there in case there are any bongonauts in the area who might know what the problem is? I'm thinking the alternator bearings have gone - hence the metal shavings on the passenger side engine bay.

Or maybe the Aircon compressor bearings. But I think alternator.... Will see what the mechanic says, but would anyone have a spare alternator in the area? 2.5 TD.

Thanks v much in advance.

Bad luck. :(

If you're there a while check how long you have free parking. Commonly 2 hours, but if you're going over time go and pay in the shop.

All the services have ANPR enforcement and heavy penalties.

If you're leaving on the recovery truck put some tape over the rear number plate.

Good luck. 8)

Edit: Ian Taylor is in that part of the world.

Huge thanks to Ian Taylor in Stoke for fixing our Bongo. Alternator ordered in and fitted the next day, and we were back on our travels to Scotland.

Excellent News. Ian Taylor is one of the first and original purveyors of Bongos in the UK. Long may he run :-)
