Bongo Fury

We have a much loved 2000, 2lt. Petrol Bongo with full side conversion and rock and roll bed, looking for advice please.

We're thinking of selling as sadly the bongo just doesn't meet our needs any more, but wanted to know what the advise / thoughts were on repairs before selling?

The vans in good nick apart from the rear arches which have rusted through. Should we get them repaired before selling?

We think it's mechanically sound and have had it serviced regularly.

Will getting the work done pay for itself / will people be put off by the rust if it's priced to reflect the condition?

When does the MOT expire.
How much have you been quoted for All the work required.??

Been quoted around £1000 for both rear archers repaired / respray.

We'd stick a new MOT on if we did sell it. It's due in the summer.

Best I can suggest is look at all the for sale ads you possibly can and try to get a feel for what yours should fetch.

Difficult to say if you'd see a grand back, but I think I might try selling 'as is' and see what interest you get before spending that amount.

You can have another think if there's no takers.

Spot on Ben (try Clearasil?). I'd have said exactly the same.

I think a purchaser would knock you down a lot more than £1K. I definitely would....guess it depends on what you are looking to let it go for the more money you want to achieve would perhaps suggest that a repair prior to sale would possibly allow you to achieve that (low miles, professional conversion, leisure battery, split charge, lighting, water, waste, no advisories, not on the register etc) £6.5-10K. Given there are 00s (on eBay for instance) for sale at the moment there are possibly a lot of alternatives without such visible rot even with a grand off the market value. Bodywork is what costs £££s unless you can do it or know someone in the trade.

I bought my Bongo with one dented / rusty arch, sold it 5 years letter un repaired, to some one with basic hand tools its simple easy repair costing under £150 in materials for both sides possibly as low as £100, I would give it 12 months MOT as some one will buy it and do the repairs them selves, I saw mine about 12 months after I sold it and its still not repaired.
I feel a Back street garage would do it for much less than £1000
I still miss it but family needs changed so it had to go
