Auto Gear Change When Cold

Hi,

I've got a 1996 2.5 Diesel auto.

During the winter, my Bongo struggles to change up into higher gears when the engine is cold. Usually holds in 4th. After 10mins of driving, it warms up and is OK.

Is this normal? Was wondering if changing the ATF and cleaning the filter a magnet etc may help?

Thanks!

Yes, there is a sensor in the gearbox which prevents it going into 4th until the oil has warmed up see page 41 of the manual here http://www.g8dhe.net/bongo_images/gearbox/RC4AEL.pdf

Its the brown item just right of centre below;
