Changing headlight bulbs (again, I know!!)

I realise this has been covered a million times but please just humour me!
I'm trying to get a pair of Osram Nightbreakers on my daughter's 2001 new shape Bongo
I just can't seem to get into the units to get the old ones out!
I can see the connector plug thing with the three (sort of fat T shape) lugs and I know I'm meant to pull that off then remove the circular rubber cover by the tag then I'm into the spring and clip assembly...in theory!
The problem is that when I pull on the connector it seems to come so far then it almost gets pulled back in. Is it just a question of brute force as I really don't want to break anything?
I did read one reply here to an earlier similar thread wher it was suggested that it was easier to first remove the headlight unit and only 3 or 4 bolts held it in. I can see the one obvious bolt above the headlight on the crossmember thingy but where are the others?
Thanks again in advance!
ps: on the back of each headlight unit there seems to be 2 plastic adjusters which turn a screw. Are they just to adjust the height of the beam?
